The show worked very well for us.  We received 1st place in music in our class in every show we attended and 1st overall music in one competition.  We also received a “Superior” Rating at the Virginia Marching Band Assessment.  One of the most fun seasons I have had as a director.  It was fun getting the reaction of the judges when we started the Barber “Adagio”.  Not just comments on how well we played, but the quality of the arrangement and the appreciation for doing real and expressive music.

We had an extremely successful marching season. This was my most successful in my 10 years of teaching. We ended up with numerous superiors as well as Band of the Day at one competition. I definitely would love to use one of your shows again.

We used one of Mr. Klarfeld’s original shows for our marching band production this season, and found his music to be both entertaining and educationally fulfilling. At nearly every contest I had inquiries from other directors as to who wrote our music. We were attracted to “Black Widow” by the great music of Saint-Saens, Shostakovich, and how effectively Jair Klarfeld arranged these classics for marching band. Our visual staff were intrigued and inspired by the music and thematic possibilities. We also chose “Black Widow” because of the challenge it presented to our kids, who were highly motivated to elevate their competitiveness. Students, staff, parents, judges and audiences all loved our show! From the unique, stylishly creepy beginning to the energetic ending and reprise of the opener, it was perhaps the best show we have ever done.

We also appreciated the personal attention and support that Mr. Klarfeld provided before, during and after the season. In short, choosing a Jair Klarfeld show was a totally positive experience for the Newtown High School Marching Band.
